The February Experiment Breakdown

What a month this has been. There’s something to be said about the Universe meeting you halfway once you find your true passion & lust for life. And put your entire heart & soul into creating, nurturing & growing that passion. I've been setting true & thoughtful intentions, which at one point only lived within my wildest dreams. I've been observing their slow unveiling as they come to fruition. And I’m developing new ideas & thought patterns, which continue to cultivate this amazing life I'm creating.

A lot of time, energy and hard work has been put into building this life. None of it has happened by chance. If you're just joining me, this is the reason why I breakdown my months into different experiments. To give proper time & consideration to what I feel are meaningful elements that I hope to incorporate into my daily life. Example -> Here are the experiments I've carried over from January – A consistent yoga practice at Yoga Santosha along with daily Cold Showers. And here's what I haven't - Smoking. As of this post, I am 5 days ciagrette free. Not easy. In fact, in this moment, I'm thinking about having one. My cravings ebb and flow. I am actually taken back ferociously in time to those 4 months right before I quit drinking for good. Where my powerfully unconscious thoughts would take over my rational conscious ones, convincing me that poison was what I so desired. That it would help make everything right again. Same thing's happening in this moment with cigarettes. A great lesson in observation, conditioning & self-compassion being relearnt these past few days..

Other experiments continued on from January :

Intention Setting – I’ve been having genuine & heartfelt conversations with the Universe. And thanking Her for guidance and offering Her gratitude for what I have here now in this present moment, and for what's to come. For me, it's just so comforting to know there’s a higher vibrational energy force looking out for me, if I’ll only embed the desired work on my end.

Sexologists/Sexuality – This has by far become my most intimate experiment to date. And it’s something I’d like to keep close to my chest for now. But let me just say there’s a lot to be said for understanding your own body, sexual awareness & mind/body energy. When I was growing up, we didn’t talk about any of this. Which to me translated as observing sexuality as a bad or negative constitution. Even my period I understood as taboo to talk about. Now I embrace it. All of it. All of me. Work in progress, but what a fucking major place to be.

\Here were my February Experiments, and breakdowns for each:

Lifestyle Coaching/Mentorship Jillian Schecher - I’ve know Jill for a while. Better part of a decade. We connected energetically then, and even moreso these past few years. Jill lives an alcohol free life as well, and is a champion free spirit. She's created and cultivated a wickedly high vibrational life. I align with her values & beliefs. And with that, I’ve hired her to help me in these next couple of months find my voice through Vivify. And how we can translate that into a growing and successful business, while keeping within my values & integrity. Leaving a meeting with her, my energy & excitement with Vivify grows to the point of full blown Unicorn shitting rainbows. I’m so lucky to have her on my team, and to feel supported the way I do.

Natural Movement Classes – Full disclosure, I didn't attend any classes in the month of February. Historically, I would have beaten myself over the head about this. But in sitting with it, I actually don’t feel as shitty as I thought I would. I believe that to be for 2 reasons:

1. It’s in the works as I’ve signed up for my first 2 weeks March 11th

2. Unexpected (and awesome) opportunities have come into play this past month that I would have been an idiot not to take up. PLUS I was still continuing with my yoga practice, so I wasn’t totally stagnant.

Ayurveda – This! I am killer excited about this. I listened to a Luke Storey podcast recently where he interviewed a woman named Sahara Rose about her Ayurvedic lifestyle. I was instantly intrigued. From there, I placed holds on every possible library book in Calgary I could source on the subject. And even begrudgingly spent time at Chapters perusing the aisles in search of the Holy Grail of Ayurvedic books. Ayurveda is the oldest system of healing in the world – older even than Chinese Medicine. It’s based upon the 3 Doshas – Vata (Air), Pitta (Fire) & Kapha (Earth). It is said that elements of all 3 doshas live in everyone, however its more likely that one will superceed all others. My primary dosha is Vata. Meaning I typically have a great deal of energy & movement going on in my mind & body. I am also of smaller build, and have tendencies of a dry & cold body type. When I am out of balance, I experience more nervousness, anxiety, fear & depression - ah ya. Bang on. Once you discover your primary dosha, you can create a diet & lifestyle best suited to keep you in balance. There’s just so much goodness in Ayurveda. I feel fuuucking amazing after just a couple weeks of incorporating their practices into my everyday life. Some of these include:

  • Eating/Adding warmer food to my diet

  • Eating/Adding more spices & fresh herbs to my diet

  • Daily Meditations

  • Oil Pulling Twice a Day

  • Tongue Scrapping Twice a Day

  • Washing my Hair every few Days instead of Daily

  • Dry Brushing & Oiling my Body Daily

Here are ones I’m looking forward to trying in March:

  • Sleep by 10pm, so I can rise by 6am (with the sun)

  • Practice of yoga & stretching first thing

  • Plan on taking care of my hardest work between 10am & 2pm

  • Eating my biggest meal of the day at lunch (According to Ayurveda, lunch is the most important meal of the day b/c your digestive fire peaks between 12pm & 1pm - the same time the sun is at its peak)

  • Gratitude & Intention setting x 10

Create a VivifyYYC Support Night - This has been my dream since starting Vivify last year. To create a night where women can come together and share their experiences & struggles surrounding alcohol. To ultimately create a community of support for one another. It's taken me months, fucking months to bite the bullet and put myself out there to launch this night. The usual thoughts racing through my brain - Who will come? Who cares what you have to say? Why listen to you? - Well, yeah, I'm no expert, but I do have my truth, and it's powerful, and it's worth telling if can help anyone going through the harshness of all of this. I am here to listen and show compassion & support in the face of confusion, pain & fear.

March offers many new & exciting elements to my life & Vivify. Not only do I host my first coffee night, but I was also asked to be on a panel facilitated by Lululemon Calgary, which speaks to empowering women, on March 8th (International Women's Day). On top of these opportunities, I will continue researching & connecting with those in the Ayurvedic world & create the beginnings of a sustainable plan for Vivify. - xo K
